GitHub App

Connect Ernest to the GitHub account or organization you want to review.

Install the Ernest GitHub App on the account or organization that owns the repositories you want reviewed.

The app lets Ernest see selected repositories, receive pull request updates, and post review results back to GitHub.

Install the app

Open Ernest

Open ernest.kubeply.com/app and select the GitHub organization or account from the organization switcher.

Add repositories

Click Add repositories. Ernest sends you to GitHub to choose repository access.

Choose access in GitHub

Choose the repositories Ernest can access and confirm the installation.

Return to Ernest

Go back to Ernest after GitHub confirms the installation.

If this is the first installation for the selected account, Ernest syncs repositories automatically when you return to the dashboard.

Choose repository access

GitHub asks whether Ernest should access all repositories or only selected repositories.

For most teams, start with selected repositories. It keeps the rollout small and makes the first review easier to verify.

You can expand access later from GitHub or by clicking Add repositories again in Ernest.

Activate repositories in Ernest

Ernest adds a second control layer on top of GitHub:

  • GitHub controls which repositories Ernest can see.
  • Ernest controls which synced repositories are active for review.

After installation, open the repositories page and enable at least one repository. Disabled repositories stay visible but are not inspected.

Confirm it worked

The selected account is ready when:

  • the organization switcher shows the GitHub account or organization
  • the repositories page lists the selected repositories
  • at least one repository is enabled
  • remaining Free bonus quota, Dev/Pro monthly quota, or Enterprise unlimited quota is available

After that, open or update a pull request in an enabled repository to trigger the first inspection.

If GitHub does not return to Ernest

If GitHub leaves you on the GitHub installation settings page, go back to Ernest and open the dashboard again. Ernest can still detect the installation once GitHub has created it.

If the repositories page is empty, click Sync repositories.
